follows:
As a member of the Basset Hound Club of Portland, Oregon, I
agree:
- To promote the welfare and quality of the Basset Hound, to
conduct myself and activities in such a manner as to benefit the Basset Hound and the
Basset Hound of Portland, Oregon, and in no way interfere with the quality of the breed or
the functioning of the club.
- To study, to inquire, to learn and familiarize myself with
all available information on the breed as to type, conformation, and proper care of the
bitch and litter and to ascertain the quality of breeding stock as sufficiently good
before planning a breeding.
- To properly care for any pups whelped, to see that they are
well nourished, treated for parasites, inoculated against diseases, and kept until a
minimum of 8 weeks before being offered for sale.
- That purchasers be interviewed to determine their attitude
and genuine interest in the dog and that sales of puppies to purchasers who have a
monetary motive be frowned upon.
- To appraise the quality of puppies honestly and to advertise
candidly, to sell puppies only at the prevailing prices for quality breeding, and to
accompany all sales with proper registration papers; four generation pedigree, and written
information on shots, worming and feeding programs.
- To refrain from selling stock to brokers, pet shops, or
through any strictly commercial establishment, to refrain from offering any pups as prizes
for any raffle, contest, door prize, etc., and to abstain from using membership in the
Basset Hound Club of Portland as an endorsement in sales or breeding activities.
- To honestly enter breeding for the betterment of the breed
and not for monetary gain, and to participate in and encourage participation in
conformation, field trials, obedience, tracking and other performance evaluations of
Basset Hounds whenever possible.
- To enter into club activities with a sportsmanlike attitude,
and to engage in and cooperate in as many of the club activities as possible.
