For the eastern section, use the 'Eastern segment I-84' link at left. This description works with the western section of I-84. I-84 connects the central intermountain west to the Pacific northwest port cities. On the eastern end, I-84 connects to I-80 at the mouth of Echo Canyon in Utah, NE of Salt Lake City, SE of Ogden and SW of Evanston WY. On the western end, I-84 connects to I-5 in Portland, OR on the east bank of the Willamette River. IN OREGON STATE: Travellers should check road and weather conditions before using I-84 in Oregon during the winter months. The section in the Columbia River Gorge between Exit 17 (Troutdale) and Exit 82 (The Dalles) will occasionally be closed due ice during winter storms. I have personally seen a case where the section between Exit 64 (Hood River) to Exit 17 was closed for two weeks due to a massive mudslide during a massive winter rain storm. The section in the Blue Mountains from Exit 213 (Pendleton) to Exit 371 (Ontario) will occasionally have a packed snow covering during a after winter storms.
