"Jules Dupre studied briefly in 1823 with the landscapist Diebolt, and worked as a porcelain painter in Saint-Yrieix and at Sevres. He studied the work of Constable while in England in 1831. Dupre exhibited regularly at the Paris Salon 1831-39, but seldom thereafter. He worked closely with Rousseau in 1841-49, but retired in 1850, to Isle-Adam, after which he worked alone. Although important for his contributions to the Barbizon movement of the 1840's, Dupre's influence diminished after 1850, when he abandoned his initial practice of painting directly from nature."
