"Charles Warren Eaton was born in Albany NY and was early associated there with Leonard Ochtman, with whom he went to Europe in 1886. On his return in 1888, Eaton established a residence in Bloomfield, New Jersey, which would be his home for the rest of his life. The following year he met Inness, Sr., in New York City, where the renowned landscapist purchased a work by the young Eaton, thus beginning a relationship continued by Inness, Jr., who invited Eaton to paint in his own spacious Montclair studio. Eaton's works of the 1890's are particularly beautiful, usually quiet late autumnal and winter landscapes that share the elder Inness's subjective exploitation of moody light effects."
