Charles Heaney came to Portland in 1913 and studied at the Museum Art School under Harry Wentz. In 1917, he apprenticed himself to a jewelry engraver to learn the trade that he was to follow until he retired in 1962. In 1947 he was selected for an exhibition called "Ten Northwest Artists". In 1952, the Portland Art Museum presented a 20 year retrospective show of his paintins and prints. His painting "Lonesome Road" is in the permanent collection of the National Museum of American Art.
