Michael Speaker, a Portland Sculptor, is quickly becoming the wild kingdom's answer to Chippendale. With the business world as a theme, Speaker's funky creatures bring a parodic twist to "life in the fast lane". "Yeah, but is it art?" The critics say yes: The New York Times labeled the Portland-born artist's wood tile sculptures "glorious".
Michael Speaker's art has been featured on the NBC Today Show, People Magazine, Forbes Magazine, NY Times, LA Times, and Sculpture Magazine, to name a few.
He has exhibited at the American Craft Museum, NY; Open Air Museum of Tokyo; Denver Art Museum; ARCO Center for the Visual Arts, LA; Santa Barbara Contemporary Arts Forum; Bakersfield Museum of Art; etc. In 1989, Michael Speaker was awarded a Fellowship from the National Endowment for the Arts.
Commissions from noted Corporate Collectors include: Frederick Weisman, LA; Sam Zell, Chicago; Edwin C. Whitehead, Greenwich; Steve Markoff, LA; and numerous Private Collections from across the United States.
