Charles Voorhies studied Architecture at the University of Pennsylvania & California. He studied painting in California with Maurice Sterne & Diego Rivera. In 1925, he traveled to France, Italy, England, and Mexico. In 1939, he joined the staff of the Museum Art School (Portland) where he taught drawing and painting until 1957. In 1958, he traveled to France and Spain where he painted for nine months. Exhibitions included the Santa Fe Museum, Legion of Honor (SF), San Francisco Art Museum, Chicago Art Institute, Portland Art Museum, etc. In, New York, he was represented by Kraushaer Galleries. Two years after his death, the Portland Art Museum held a retrospective exhibition of 175 paintings and drawings.
