Volunteering just a
small amount of time every month can make a big difference. Make the world a
better place and find the joy in expanding your life as you help another person.
All volunteers must have been licensed or certified in one of the health
or teaching professions, and are expected to adhere to common ethical guidelines
for the helping professions.
A book strongly recommended for all
volunteers is "On Becoming a Counselor: A Basic Guide for Nonprofessional
Counselors." This is not a book on how to become a counselor, but on how to
become more effective at helping people while trying to be aware of and avoid
the many pitfalls and obstacles that will inevitably occur. It's by Eugene
Kennedy and Sara Charles, M.D.
