Jerry Simchuk, a renowned bird and fish carver, is offering a class in carving a Harlequin Drake Working Decoy at Bill Yakely’s barn-shop located in Mead, Washington. This workshop is being sponsored by Inland Empire Carvers of Spokane, Washington. Jerry is not only a phenomenal sculptor but also a wonderful teacher. If you are looking to raise your level of expertise, Jerry is the one to do it for you.

This is a four-day workshop covering the methods and techniques used to create a working decoy. The objective of this class is to have a life size completed functional working decoy. Some of the many things you will learn in this class include: anatomy, decoy structure, weighting, carving techniques, and painting techniques. You will also learn a little bit about the Harlequin duck as well.

The class is limited to 10 students on a first come, first serve basis. A $100 non-refundable deposit is required to hold a space (refundable in special cases). For those signed up a list of supplies and materials will be provided in advance of the class. The initial blank, pattern, and eyes will be supplied. Extra supplies for the project bird will be made available for purchase during the class.

Habitat Class 

Subject: Floral Habitat Creation

Jerry Simchuk, a renowned bird and fish carver, is offering a class in creating floral habitat for your carvings at Judy Caldwell’s studio located in Mulino, Oregon. Jerry is not only a phenomenal sculptor but also a wonderful teacher. If you are looking to raise your level of expertise, Jerry is the one to do it for you.

This class is a 3-day workshop. The objective of this class is to create a floral perch for your smaller songbirds and to learn about creating other types of floral habitat from metal, epoxy and wood.

The class is limited to 10 students on a first come, first serve basis. A $100 non-refundable deposit is required to hold a space (refundable in special cases). For those signed up a list of supplies and materials will be provided in advance of the class.

There is room for several RV’s at the Caldwell’s and a Motel close by. With a $10 chip in pool we will put together lunch fixings at the studio. Raptor Class (Part 1 - Carving)  

Subject: Screech Owl (life-size)

Jerry Simchuk, a renowned bird and fish carver, is offering a class in carving a Screech Owl at Judy Caldwell’s studio located in Mulino, Oregon.  Jerry is not only a phenomenal sculptor but also a wonderful teacher.  If you are looking to raise your level of expertise, Jerry is the one to do it for you.

 

For the level of information and detail involved in these projects, it has been necessary to create a two-part class format.  The first class is focused on carving the bird while the second is focused on painting the bird.  In order to allow time to complete the carving of the project, there will be a month or so in between classes.

 

This class is a 6-day carving workshop.  The objective of this class is to learn about the Screech Owl and the techniques used to carve a decorative sculpture.  Some of the many things you will learn in this class include: anatomy, carving techniques, feather groups and texturing.

 

The class is limited to 10 students on a first come, first serve basis.  A $100 non-refundable deposit is required to hold a space (refundable in special cases).  For those signed up a list of supplies and materials will be provided in advance of the class.  The initial blank, pattern, and eyes will be supplied.  Extra supplies for the project bird will be made available for purchase during the class.

 Jerry Simchuk, a renowned bird and fish carver, is offering a class in painting a Screech Owl at Judy Caldwell’s studio located in Mulino, Oregon.  Jerry is not only a phenomenal sculptor but also a wonderful teacher.  If you are looking to raise your level of expertise, Jerry is the one to do it for you.

The class is limited to 10 students on a first come, first serve basis.  A $100 non-refundable deposit is required to hold a space (refundable in special cases).  For those signed up a list of supplies and materials will be provided in advance of the class.  As a follow-up class to the carving, you will bring your finished carving of the Screech Owl to the class.  If you do not have a carved Screech Owl, early requests for a cast Screech Owl must be made to assure one will be made available.
