A touring car is a highly modified 4-door sedan.
The chassis is original, steel unibody. The suspension is modified with gas pressurized coil overs that are adjustable for compression and rebound.
The engines must contain the original block. Displacement is limited to under 2 liters. Configuration allows for 4, 5,or 6 cylinders. Generally these engines produce approximately 300 hp.
The gearbox on touring cars are generally of the 6-spd sequential type, somewhat like a motorcycle gearbox where the clutch is not needed unless first starting out.
There are touring car championships all over the world. The most prominant being the British Touring Car Championship.
Currently Touring Car racing is non-existent in the US. Perhaps there are only 5-8 cars in the United States, ours being the only Peugeot. We race in ICSCC, & SCCA in the SPU & SPM class. SPU meaning Super Production Under 2 liters, and SPM meaning Super Production Medium: 2-5liters. Our main competition is Mazda, Nissan, and Porsche.
