RUNNING FIX

Running Fix:
  • a fix using one bearing.
  • doesn’t matter how far the course line is from the bearing object.
1) Plot course line; label with bearing above and Speed below.
2) Take first bering; label with time over True bearing.
3) Proceed on course for a length of Time.
4) Take second bearing; label with Time over True bearing.
5) Determin DR at time of second bearing (see Speed/Distance/Time page)
  • Speed=given, Time=difference from first bearing, solve for Distance and measure from last fix [Distance = Speed x Time / 60min]
  • Label with half circle, Time and "DR"
6) Advance first bearing line parallel through DR.
7) FIX = point where advanced first bearing intersects second bearing.
  • Label with circle, Time and "R FIX".
