SAILING

HASSE & COMPANY: PORT TOWNSEND SAILS

HEAVY WEATHER SAILING

1) Watch the local weather and tides, and plan passages to avoid heavy weather.
2) Have a "well-found" yacht: structurally sound, well provisioned and outfitted with proper operating, maintenance, safety and emergency gear and systems.
3) Prepare crew to confidently "hand, reef and steer" as well as practice all emergency procedures (skipper's job: inspiration and leadership).
4) Keep the cruisers' priorities in order: "safety, comfort, speed".
