STORM PREPARATION

Shorten watches (radio watch--position check)
Close all unnecessary through-hull fittings (tapered plugs)
Secure ports and hatches
Clear decks
Inspect rig--running and standing
Have storm sails, sea anchors, drogues and warps "at the ready"
Check bilge pumps
Secure below decks
Check engine and battery
Prepare food ahead
Post or have in log "sail schedule" and vessel light diagram
Note lights ashore or on buoys that may be enroute of vessel's proposed course
If hurricane, understand safe vs. dangerous semi-circle
Keep crew as healthy, safe, warm and dry as possible with proper clothing, harnesses on deck and when cooking, bunk boards or leeclothes for off watch
