Aug 1 2003 Fire

These pictures are from a small brush fire that started around 3:10 PM on August 1st, on the bluff overlooking Swan Island near the intersection of N Willamatte Blvd and Woolsey Ave. I spotted it very soon after ignition, and the flames were maybe a foot tall in on spot in the brush. By the time I pulled over and called the fire department and got my camera out, maybe a minutes time, the fire had grown substantially. When PFB Engine 26 arrived four minutes later, the fire had spread to cover a good 30-40 foot area on the edge of the road. All that hot, dry weather in July had really made for good conditions for the fire! If you look carefully in some of the photos, you can see the blackened area about a mile away from the controlled burn they had done on July 27. I have several good photos from that day that I will post at a later date.
