About the Books

Historic Cloud Cap Inn
42 Hikes and walks that range from a 1/2 mile, very easy walk to a challenging 13 mile, cross-country hike. One beautiful nature trail is wheelchair accessible. Several of the trails include interesting portions of the historic Oregon Trail. Most are relatively easy day hikes, ranging in length from 4-8 miles; and are suitable for walkers of all ages.
The Timberline Trail circling Mt Hood is one of the most spectacular hiking trails in the world. The 41-mile trail runs mostly at the timber line and drops in and out of canyons carved by the rivers that flow from the many glaciers on the mountain. Over the 41-mile trail, the total elevation gain is about 9000 ft with the lowest point at 3200 ft and the highest point at 7560 ft. Our purpose in writing this book is to show how the Timberline Trail can readily be broken down into 1-way day hikes using car shuttles and car swaps. The 41-mile circle is divided into 8 segments and detailed descriptions are provided about how to reach the trailheads, and the pros and cons of hiking each segment in a clockwise or counterclockwise direction.
