AROUND MT HOOD IN EASY STAGES
The Mazamas, Book Pick of 1998"For a book so small that is fits into a [large] shirt pocket, it contains as much or more information than most others double its size and weight. It is for sure, a guide book deserving to be treated to a hike.
The book is essentially a hiker's guide which has divided the 40+ mile Timberine Trail into eight segments; then describes each segment along with the access trails needed to reach the points of entry and exit to each section. Most are fairly long one-day hikes and a car swap or shuttle is needed.
'Around Mt. Hood in Easy Stages'   is a wonderful little book, remarkably detailed. It contains maps, directions, mileages (both highway and trail) for the hikes, plus many admirable line drawings of native plants, flowers, trees, and significant sights along the way - elevations and difficulties that might be encountered have not been forgotten. It tells you what to wear, what to bring, and even contains a section on business resources in the area (restaurants, inns, lodges, markets, etc.) This 1997 edition is so up-to-date that the new Mazama Trail has a niche of its own."
Richard Kohnstamm, Timberline Lodge
"This compact book captures the spirit, beauty, and awesome power of Mt. Hood. The tips about which flowers to look for are an added bonus."
Jim Morris, retired physician and life-long hiker
"Hiking the Timberline Trail has to be one of life's most enriching and unforgettable experiences. This easy-to-use book makes it more enjoyable and safe."
