Christmas Letter 1996 By Odell Sneeden Hathaway, III My Dear Friends: At this time of the year apart from the normal thoughts about: how much Christmas is costing and how much weight we are gaining ect... Ones thoughts turn to old friends and getting back in touch with them. This year my life has been so full of joys and sorrows that instead of sending you a card, I thought I would help you reconnect by letting you know about all the changes that have happened over the last 12 months. This has been a very busy 1996 and it looks like it will lead to an even busier 1997!!! The year started out with my buying my 1st home. My home is a very nice 3 bedroom house in Vancouver, WA. I have a very large yard with a stream running though the back yard. On summer nights you can here the frogs in the stream. Along with a new house I also got my self a Dog. His name is Perezvon, from the brothers Karamazov. Unfortunately, he turned out to be more of a dog then I could handle. I purchased a 10lb puppy and ended up with a 100lb monster. So I was very sad when I had to take him back because I simply could not care for him. Two weeks after moving in, I got my 1st snow. 6” turned my yard in to a winter wonderland. (and I loved it) Then came the floods but I did not have any problems Owning a house lead me to many new experiences, Cutting the lawn, Paying for water, and so on. As the year continued and we got to summer, something wonderful happened. It was the night of the Olympic Bombing. I checked my E-mail and found a letter from someone in Montreal. I often get letters from people who have read my home page but this one was very special. Her name is XXXX (sounds like XXXX XXXX). She is very shy and dose not want me to tell too much about her. All summer long we wrote to each other (over 250 letters so far). Sharing our lives with each other: telling each other about our day to day life and about our passed our dreams, hopes and fears. Finally in September XXXX and her mother came to Vancouver BC for a visit before moving there permanently. So I got to meet my E-mail pal. We spent 2 days together walking all over Vancouver, and talking. Just learning how wonderful it was to be together. (A time I wished would never end) She did finally move to Vancouver BC and when She arrive, I met the plane. But the best time for us came over Thanks Giving weekend when we visited Victoria. We were supposed to go to the Empress hotel for tea but XXXX did not want to. So I asked her to marry me instead and she said “OK”. Like I said, next year looks to be a fuller year then this one. XXXX will be visiting me for the 1st time over the holidays and I hope she will decide to move to the US. In any case we are going to be married in September. Well, I know that much more has happened in my life, but I do not want to bore you to death. What I would like to do is wish you a very Merry Christmas and a wonder filled New Year.
