Dear Mr Archer,

Thank you for your letter April 24, 2000 which reached me
yesterday.

As a reply I send you separate some general info on the Foundation.
The Foundation has been registered as a limited company for special
reasons f. ex. 100% family control, it has to be audited every year
by certified auditor, report - including auditors report - has to
be filed with the authorities every year. It is also registered as
a "stiftelse" with small enough capital base so that it does not
have to go on the official register -- but the name is protected.

The Foundation is a small family organization but we try to do as
much good as we possibly can with the means that are available to
us. We have never claimed to be anything else than what we are.

I do not know with whom you have been in contact at the Royal
Swedish Academy of Science and who gave you the information that I
would not have the right or permission to use the Academy's medal.
The medal is -- as you correctly state -- struck by the Royal Mint.
In order to strike the medal a permission from the Academy is
necessary.

Some years ago I financed and awarded all the memorial medals that
the Academy previously had been unable to supply and I have also
supplied medals to the University of Uppsala for a number of years.
You must ask yourself, how would this be possible without a
permission from the Academy? We are allowed to use the medal as
long as it differs from the one awarded together with the Angstrom
Prize. The permission was given to me by the secretary at the
Academy who was in charge of, and handled these things in -- I
believe -- 1989 (possibly 1988) (he is now retired for some 11
years).

The medal awarded by the Foundation comes with a blue and yellow
ribbon and is of the type that could be pinned on a coat. It has
my great grandfather’s profile on one side and the solar spectrum
on the other side. The medal awarded by the University together
with the Prize is strictly a "coin" medal. Furthermore the
Foundation has a bronze version and a gilt silver version.

Again, how could I have all these medals struck and supplied by
the Royal Mint and how could it be that we have delivered the
memorial medals to the University without permission i e if your
information is correct?

Under the heading "Name Recognition" you write: "the Foundation
is known to the UFOlogy and skeptic community". I am not
quite sure that I know what you mean by this but for your
information we/I do not know anything about UFOlogy.

It is true that the Angstrom Foundation AB does not have a WEB
site and neither do I. We have never claimed to have one.

I want once again to underline that we are a very small
organization and should under no circumstances what so ever be
compared with Nobelstiftelsen or Wallenbergsstiftelsen and we have
never claimed to be anything else than what we are. Neither do we
have any connections with the University of Uppsala other than
that we have donated some money for changing my grandfathers Solar
Observatory into guestrooms for visiting scientists and we have
also -- as per above -- donated some memorial medals. There
should be no mistake between the Foundations medal and the
memorial medal connected with the Angstrom Prize as they differ
quite a lot.

Mr. Archer, it seems to me that you have made a good piece of
research even if there are some slight errors here and there.
Obviously a mistake was made in awarding the medal to Mr Hoagland.
However, it was done in good faith and with good intentions as an
encouragement for his theory about hyperdimentional physics - and
for this I am the only one to blame. By using the award for
something that it was not intended to be, Mr Hoagland has given us
and our basic idea a lot of "bad will" and unnecessary trouble and
work. In fact I think that he has spoiled it all together and
that we should scrap the whole idea. Why try to encourage people?
Why give away support and/or money? Is it not better to spend it
on yourself, your family and close friends? If you have any better
ideas and/or ideas how to end this matter -- the sooner the
better -- please let me know.

Best regards
L-J Angstrom
