ENERGY THERAPY is …

a classification of therapy techniques which treat a persons physical and emotional body as an energy system. The healing process can either be improved or diminished by the type, amount or flow of energy through the system. This group of therapies includes a wide variety of treatment protocols which have been developed during the past 2000 plus years. As one example, prayer, which calls upon the power of a divine force to intercede, is seen as simple and non-invasive. Approaches, like acupuncture which affect the flow of energy through insertion of thin wires into the body, require very complex training and are considered invasive techniques. At the Northwest Center for Energy Therapy, NWCet, we have chosen therapies that are non-invasive and gently support the healing process of the physical body, as well as addressing mental and emotional conditions. Usui Shiki Ryoho, Therapeutic Touch, Guided Visualization, Focused Breathwork, TTouch, and Spiritual Guidance as requested by a patient, are among the therapies available at the Center.

In recent years allopathic and holistic medicine have incorporated modern methods and ancient practices. Energy therapies are finding their place as supportive, adjunct or complementary treatments. Available from home to hospital, birthing rooms to the hospice programs, and recovery rooms to surgical suites, energy therapy is widely recognized as a valuable tool.

Northwest Center for Energy Therapy has been established to provide services to the patient, insurance, and medical communities. The therapies employed at the Center have a long tradition of being used to support healing. Our philosophy is to provide quality care in a safe nurturing space. Our objective is to have the patient embrace and use energy therapy to augment the medical treatment and activate their own inherent healing ability.

Energy therapy crosses boundaries of ethnicity, religious practice, and various belief systems. The recipient generally experiences a sense of peace and safety, a deep calm and physical relaxation, and relief of pain and fear. When patients in a medical setting have these experiences they often require less intervention and respond to treatment more quickly. This is advantageous to the health insurance provider, medical facility, physician, patient, and patient's family.

The practice of energy therapy has become much more integrated with allopathic treatment. The series by Bill Moyer aired on Public Television, titled Healing and the Mind, explored these therapies and this has resulted in increased public awareness and demand for services.

Today prestigious medical schools, from Harvard and Georgetown to Stanford and UCLA, include some level of this training in their curriculum for physicians. Hospitals are also incorporating various forms of energy therapy in treatment of patients and in staff and community educational programs.

The following examples provide insight into the extent and nature of energy therapy as an important treatment modality.

Energy therapy addresses the need to balance patient care and cost containment. The documentation of experiences supporting energy therapy as both cost effective and patient friendly continues to build. Private physicians and medical facilities have opened their doors to what in the past was seen as an "alternative therapy" and is now being considered an integral part of a patients treatment plan.
