Is there a music lover inside of you yearning for expression? Consider the ukulele, instrument of liberation! Learn the joys of ukulele playing with the founder of Portland’s Ukulele Association, Marianne Brogan.

Marianne has been teaching for 8 years and specializes in beginners of all ages, private lessons & group instruction offered. Marianne travels with loaner ukuleles and teaches regularly at music camps, senior centers and group events.

4-week workshops at the Lake Oswego Adult Community Center. Tuesdays mornings. Check with LOACC for details and prices.

45–minute introductory workshop at Artichoke Music the 1st Saturday of each month from 9:30 –10:15 a.m. $10 (no prior experience expected - loaner instruments available). Beginner's jam from 10:30 a.m.–noon 1st Saturdays of each month at Artichoke Music $10. Build chord vocabulary, practice different strumming and finger picking styles, develop rhythm and ear training. Easy songs, lite instruction, lots of fun.

Past workshops include: Be in Band–Ukulele Ensemble, Back to Basics–level 1, level 2 beginners, & intermediate classes on chord inversions. Gift certificates available.

Private Lesson Description:

Level: Beginning to Advanced Ages 10 and up. All styles and levels. From strumming simple and fun songs to advanced finger picking arrangements. Co-author, with acoustic master Bill Keith, of The Natural Way To Music, An Organic Approach To Understanding & Playing Music, a short course to understanding basic music theory. My approach to the ukulele incorporates ear training, a basic understanding of the major scale, chords and their progressions, learning different strumming and picking techniques, and, of course, playing songs right away! Music genres include children's songs, folk, early jazz and jug band, blues and some Hawaiian.
