In the Old Testament, there is a procedure given for the priests to cleanse a man of leprosy. The procedure given is essentially that some sacrifice is made, and the blood is mixed with hyssop and scarlet on cedar wood over water. The mixture is then sprinkled and dabbed on the man with leprosy and days later, he's either cured or not. You can read the procedure in Leviticus 14. The problem is, nothing said there directly cures leprosy in and of itself. So other than by an act of God curing the man, it looks like a pointless thing to do. As such, some people tend to complain that the procedure is ineffective. Is it? When you check what's said in Leviticus 14, what you find is, they were told to check the house as well, not just the man. The priest would go into the house looking for red or green discolorations in the lower portion of the house. If it was, he knew that the house was unclean... for leprosy? No, it wasn't leprosy being cleared out, it was fungi. When you check the translation, you find that the term used for leprosy, also allows for malignant skin diseases, such as fungi related types... of which, in 2004, it was reported that hyssop is VERY effective at killing fungi. This is another instance where the translators, not knowing what we know now, or having access to the priests of the day, translated the term to a specific skin disease, rather than a more generic term that would have been more obvious to most readers. It's clear that the scriptures were giving a procedure from God, for how to kill fungi, not leprosy. God knew it thousands of years ago, told them what to do, and what he told them, works fine to remove the fungi. He also said that if it wasn't removed, that they should tear down the house, toss away the materials, and rebuild it with new materials. At the time and with what they had to work with, those procedures given, were good things for them to do. God made it all, Jesus died for our sins.
