This one was already discussed breifly in other articles
but the topic deserves to be looked at in more depth.
Often times, those rejecting the Genesis 1 account as being too
"unscientific", they tend to miss the raw detail of what God
had already told them about our solar system formation: things
science is currently discovering and describing, and things they
have yet to discover.
For example, as stated previously, science is still struggling
with planet formation, the exact details of how the matter
showed up. There are theories, many collide in different ways.
Science is still working through those theories to match them
up with the evidence collected, and evidence yet to be collected.
Some of the theories are more generally accepted, for instance,
the "big bang". They admit that some supernatural event occurred,
some enormous once in a universe creation event occurred, they
don't deny that, and they call it a "big bang". I simply
say that God created the matter and energy spewing out all over
the universe at that time, and leave it at that. Genesis 1
agrees in saying that God at the start, created the heavens
and the earth, or in other words, the matter for the heavens
and the earth was created at the start.
Concerning the time after the "big bang" though, science's
claim about such is that there were only lighter elements
around at the start. They state this through both evidence
gathered, and estimates of what would need to occur within
stars over their lifetimes after the "big bang". What's
incredible to realize though, is that what God said in
Genesis 1, God's statements in the first two sentences, they
match up with that assertion.
The first two verses of Genesis 1 say:
Gen 1:1 In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.
2 The earth was without form, and emptiness; and darkness
was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God
moved upon the face of the waters.
As was stated in a previous article, it's now obvious that God
is describing our solar system formation in Genesis 1. Clearly,
at the very start of it all, God started creating, he made
the matter for the earth and the heavens... the "big bang" or
whatever you want to call that massive universe forming event.
God made the universe... the matter and energy for it was
created, sent out... lighter elements or "waters" later to be
used to form heavier elements... to later form the final earth
you see now.
Basially, the lighter elements that would be used to build
heaiver elements existed, but the final form you see for
earth, did not.
You can view it either way, the earth was both void in that
the planet didn't yet exist as it hadn't yet formed from the
regathering matter after the pre-sun star exploded, or you
can view it as the various elements needed to give the final
earth's form didn't yet exist, and it was void to think of
having a planet form from only the lighter elements. That and
the lighter elements were spread out over the emptiness of
space prior to their fusing after the pre-sun star lit up,
to then later to give heavier elements.
Either view is fine for the term used for "void" or "emptiness".
Both are valid for the context of the discussion, for the state
of earth's matter at the time occurring in those first two
sentences in Genesis 1.
Think about what is being said by God, he's just said that
the earth as you now see it... wasn't formed, yet was there,
even the elements were unformed... yet emptiness... elements
spread out over the emptiness of space.
What does that mean?
In the subsequent verses, God says "let there be light",
and as was discussed before, that's the "pre-sun" star
lighting up. So clearly, God is talking about the earth's
existance prior to that, and in that time frame... what form
or rather, lack of form, was the earth's existance? How
did the matter for earth exist, yet not be formed to give
the earth as you now see it?
If you look at say the element iron, it didn't exist back
at the start of it all. There were no iron atoms back then
in that no iron atoms had yet been formed from lighter
elements fusing or being jammed together.
Prior to those lighter elements fusing to form iron, they
were bouncing around over vast distances and they eventually
would collide and FUSE into the iron atoms. All the lighter
elements that would jam together to make up each individual
iron atom, they were previously spread out over vast distances
prior to colliding to form the iron atoms. That happened for
each iron atom... atoms over the vast emptiness... heavier
atoms yet to be formed from lighter atoms spread out over
the vast emptiness.
If you wanted to build a steak knife back then, you couldn't,
there were no iron atoms, the atoms to build it didn't exist yet.
The iron atoms were unformed, and the component lighter element
atoms that would later make up the individual iron atoms, they
were spread over vast distances. Most of the earth's matter, it
was much the same thing. The earth was like that steak knife,
the elements to build it, most were yet unformed and spread out
over the emptiness of space.
Think about it.
Realize that God simply said, what really happened.
Your steak knife's atoms, they both didn't exist in the present
form, the atoms later to jam together to form iron atoms, they
came from lighter elements spread over incredible distances
of the emptiness of space... and further still, even after the
iron atoms were formed, the iron atoms were then later gathered
from over vast distances as the iron atoms collected and cooled
over millions of years, to later be used to make your steak knife.
The earth you see now, it truely was unformed and emptiness or
void at the start of creation, just like God said in Genesis 1.
Those two first lines in Genesis 1, they are describing the
earth's initial matter, roughly the same way science predicts
it was back billions of years ago soon after that "big bang".
Further confirmation is where God said there was darkness
upon the face of the deep... the lighter elements or "waters"
being dark at the time, which as was discussed in previous
articles, is the state of that "pre-sun" star prior to lighting
up.
When someone says Genesis 1 is "too unscientific"... it's
because they don't realize what God was saying when he said it.
If they'd bother to read what he said, and figure it out, they'd
then realize that God simply said what he did. He told Moses
what he did, in words Moses could pass on. The words are correctly
given, and were able to be passed on over thousands of years,
to eventually be seen as being the truth, from God himself.
For thousands of years, God's own words have been there as
a statement of truth, that the creator did what he said he
did. God's words confirm that he is the source of his creation.
The God of Abraham, Issac and Jacob, he is the only God that
knew what had occurred during creation, therefore, he is the
only God there is.
God made it all, Jesus died for our sins.
