Fish / Bears / Birds

Fishing was as good as it gets for Trout, Salmon (Coho and Chum) and Char (Dolly and Siberian White Spotted). Trout fishing is catch and release.

We were asked to measure length and girth when possible. Not many were measured because of the difficulty of safely handling these large, aggressive brutes, most were released in deep water without handling. Of those we were able to put on the tape the largest was 32" long with a 22" girth, my largest was 30" with a 19" girth. It is interesting to note that there are no steelhead in this system. When you have an environment that permits resident rainbows to get as large as steelhead why bother with the ocean journey ?

...Fishing Day #1 "Grin & Bear It"..we head down river, other boats head up. See sow and cubs with-in minutes, first of many bear that day. Saw more bear than large rainbow. Caught char at will, several large chum, lost two 25"+ bows. Weather is sunny. Come to papa. Six inch string leaches were the preferred pattern for trout and salmon. Also had fun with large mouse patterns. Once tried a #14 Adams for fun, after 12 casts and 12 Dolly's I returned to the leech.
Stellar Sea Eagle: Everything in Russia is bigger, planes, trucks and eagles! Fished with this guy every day.

...Fishing Day #2..."As Good as it Gets ?"...Our boat heads up river 5+ miles. We both hook unlimited char, occasional 20"+ bow & chum. Kevin lands coho which we keep for lunch. Afternoon fishing FANTASTIC, measured one at 27", landed but unable to measure one that was larger. Had one sequence of 3 casts, 3 fish, one of which spooled me.

How's fishin'?

   Trout on a Two Hander?

For reference, the length of the rod grip is 21"

And you think you are scared?

Who ate the fisherman?
