Cathlapotle Plankhouse Project in Ridgefield

Coyote Girl Many Streams Flow in Me

Ya Ta Hey and Oh Da Ley! SisterSpirit Friends!

Greetings from your sister across the Great River!

I write today to give you all an update on things going on at the Cathlapotle Plankhouse Project in Ridgefield, Washington. As you may know the construction was completed, and the plankhouse was opened to the public on February 29th, 2005 to coincide with the 200th anniversary of the Lewis and Clark Expedition down the Columbia River to the Pacific Ocean. The plankhouse is a full size replica of one of the 14 chinookan plankhouses that existed at the time. Some of us have been trained to work with cattail fib er to make mats as the Indian people did and others are quite good at carving. Visitors are encouraged to handle specially made replicas of tools and household goods.

It is staffed by volunteer docents who have been trained by Ridgefield Wildlife Staff to answer questions and guide the public while on site. If you decide to visit we strongly advise people to check the www.plankhouse.org website for current open times.

Blessings to You and Yours from your friend,

Coyote Girl Many Streams Flow in Me
