Below is a sample contract, we taylor it to fit the particular situation. You are welcome to barrow it, modify it, use it, or if you have some suggestions, you may email us.

Conditions of sale are as follows:

This contract/sale is executed in the state of Oregon and is subject only to Oregon statutes governing contacts and sale of animals. Any and all litigation will occur in Jefferson County.

Ownership of the puppy is transferred from the seller to the buyer at time of purchase. Hereafter the word dog refers to dogs, bitches and puppies.

Seller’s Responsibility:

Seller will provide a sound, healthy puppy for delivery to the buyer.

Seller agrees to provide documentation of current vaccinations and other pertinent medical treatment for the puppy.

Seller will provide all necessary documentation for registration of the puppy within a reasonable amount of time, not to exceed 6 months.

The seller agrees to take the dog back in the event the buyer cannot maintain the dog in a proper manner. This will be done at no expense to the seller and the buyer agrees to pay any transportation charges.

Seller agrees that Show Dogs are provided with a guarantee for the health of the puppy and to replace the puppy in the event the pup does not meet specified health standards.

Buyer’s Responsibility:

Buyer agrees to use the Sloan's prefix on the registered name of the puppy.

Buyer agrees to provide a proper loving home for the puppy. Puppy will be controlled at all times using fencing, kenneling, or collar and leash.

Buyer agrees to feed the pup a premium dog food, and maintain proper nutritional levels for the dog.

Buyer agrees to provide regularly scheduled veterinarian care and examinations, and to maintain the dog per veterinarians instructions. and agrees to notify the breeder of any situations of a serious nature.

Pet dog* buyers agree to follow breeder direction as to spay/neuter option.

Show Dog* buyers agree not to spay/neuter dog with out express written permission from Sloan's Golden Retrievers.

*Failure to comply will lead to breach of contract.

Health Guarantee :

We have a very straight forward, no nonsense, guarantee on our Golden Retriever puppies.

Our Sloan's puppies are fully guaranteed for congenital defects for a period of one year from date of birth. Minor imperfections are not guaranteed in any pups. In the event a Sloan's pup is sold as show quality, OFA results are guaranteed to be at least fair. In the event the rating is below fair, a refund equivalent to the difference between pet and show price will be refunded.

Puppy must be maintained on a proper premium grade dog food, such as Natures Recipe, Nutro, Hill’s Science Diet, Iam’s, Purina One etc. Feeding your dog cheap food will result in a poor quality of dog, as well as voiding of your guarantee in the event a problem arises and the condition is caused by nutritional problems. It is the buyer’s responsibility to maintain the dog at the proper physical condition. This guarantee is void if the pup is not cared for in a humane manner, fed proper food, or exhibits signs of mistreatment. Stressing of the hip joints by improper exercise will void the hip guarantee.

This guarantee does not cover accidental injury.

The full liability of Sloan's Golden Retrievers is replacement of the affected puppy with a like breed and sex of puppy when next available.

Show Dogs:

Raised and trained to be a conformation dog with a good faith effort to attain a championship on the show dog. All expenses are to be the responsibility of the owner. Sloan's Golden Retrievers agrees to help coordinate support in training and grooming of the show dog. Generally accepted standard clearances (OFA,CERF) will be obtained in a timely manner. It is clearly understood and expressly stated that the dog may not be spayed or neutered; except in an effort to preserve it's life.

The parties in this agreement intend to use the philosophy of the Golden Retriever Club of America code of ethics, in breeding to "Approved Bitches/Studs" and only with the permission of Sloan's Golden Retrievers.

Resale or disposal of dog:

Buyer agrees to notify the Sloan's Golden Retrievers in the event that the puppy cannot be provided for. Buyer agrees this dog will not go to a pound or be put down. Sloan's Golden Retrievers retains the right in the event the dog is to be given away, to take the dog back at no cost to Sloan's Golden Retrievers.

Buyer agrees to give the Sloan's Golden Retrievers first right to purchase the dog in the event the dog is to be sold.

Buyer agrees to not sell, give, or otherwise convey this dog to any person or entity that produces or sells pups as a commercial venture. Breaking any of the above clauses constitutes breach of contract.

Breach of Contract:

This clause deals primarily with the transfer of the dog to a third party, but is not exclusive to such.

To protect both the dog and the Sloan's Golden Retrievers reputation, we have included this clause.

We do not want our dogs sold or transferred to a puppy mill. We hope we never have cause to invoke this clause! If found to be in breach of this contract, the buyer agrees to relinquish ownership of the dog, and assigns ownership back to Sloan's Golden Retrievers.

Buyer agrees to pay damages equivalent to 500% of the purchase price of the dog for restitution of any possible damage to Sloan's Golden Retrievers and it’s reputation.

Buyer agrees to pay reasonable attorney’s fees incurred by the Sloan's Golden Retrievers to enforce the terms of this contract.

Buyer agrees to pay reasonable transportation charges for any personnel and the dog to return the dog to Sloan's Golden Retrievers.

Returns :

We will always take a dog back that we have placed. In the event you cannot care for your dog, we will accept the dog back and place it in a good, approved home for you. This is not done lightly.

These dogs bond with their human family, and should not be disposed of unnecessarily. A commitment for the life of the dog should be made prior to purchasing it.
