Caveats: the following cases are not covered:

- un-sensible input
- ratings that change across the multiplier boundaries at 1800 and 2000
- players with no initial rating (but such players can approximate their performance rating by trying various initial ratings until the post-tournament rating is close to the initial rating)
- special club tournaments -- where you can adjust the above calculation so that the *change* in your rating is one-half what it would otherwise be (Which tournaments these are should be made clear by organizers in advance.)
- the complex calculations if one or more opponents are themselves unrated
