From "The Life and Work of Ernest M. Skinner" by Dorothy J. Holden (page 264), and thoughtfully sent in by Mr. Lanny Hochhalter of Salem, Oregon.
This organ was literally "saved" by David Newman (picture above at the console). His extensive collection of Music Instruments is on display at Alpenrose.
*** About the 32' stop William A. Hanson writes... "It was a magnificent 32' in the Auditorium. I remember early on being disappointed in it. When working on the organ in March, 1960 I discovered that the chest was leaking badly where the center was not adequately supported. Once I made that repair (which had probably been needed for many years), the rank really showed its true power and background noise in the organ was almost nil. Virgil Fox remarked that the organ was doing so very much better than the last time he had played it, and I am sure a lot of the credit went to that simple chest sealing." (!)
