News from your Region VIII Education Coordinator:

New Years' Resolutions are a month away!

Nancy Cooper writes: At the moment, I would imagine that many of you are immersed in Advent and Christmas rehearsals, concerts, services, and private practice time. Many of us look ahead to January as a time to take a little vacation, if only an in-town one. We also use January as a time to regroup, resolving to "do things differently."

How about a combination of both? For many busy musicians, sitting at the organ and learning new repertoire is a luxury. Treat it as a mini-vacation, and make a resolution to take one of the certification exams in 2004! Most of us work best when working toward a goal, and this is an excellent one!

AGO certification exams will introduce you to new repertoire, will serve as motivation for regular practice, help you improve some bad (or, less-than-good) habits, and get you enthused about the organ all over again.

For more specific information about the exams, consult the AGO website (www.agohq.org) or email me at coopern@mso.umt.edu

Region VIII Speaker's Bureau - Labor of Love begun...

This was an idea inspired by my friend Robert Gault (Eugene, Oregon). Where can the smaller chapter find programs of interest from local people? Let's call this "in addition to" sponsoring inspiring, nationally-known, artists. We appear to be blessed with a host of talent---solid Region VIII folk who are not as widely known as they might be. Keeping their names handy might be useful.

So how about it, Region VIII? Can you suggest names of local people who presented to your chapter, are might be willing to travel and present their special topics at a modest cost?

I will keep a list of your e-mailed suggestions for speakers. You can nominate yourself of course! wkrueger@teleport.com Kindly include a phone number or e-mail.

There is still opportunity for advertisers to help underwrite the convention program book. Here's all you need to support our coming National Convention in this manner.

Is there a business or organization in your immediate area that could benefit from reaching 2500 readers? Please help get this information to them.

To consider advertising, download and print the simple PDF file, and send it in with a check. Business card size is only $100. How about ALL 19 Region VIII Chapters purchase: "Greetings from ___ chapter, with your unique logo?

Which chapter will host the 2007 Region VIII Convention?

Still hoping for chapter bids to host our 2007 Region VIII Convention. We could call it the "007" (Double-O-Seven) Convention.

Chapters who have already hosted a regional report a resurgence of member activity and increased chapter vitality. Plus, the host chapter realizes a huge financial profit as a bonus! There has never been a chapter that later regretted the experience! Deadline for 2007 Regional Convention bids to reach my desk: 1/31/04

Visit the National AGO web page for downloadable documents, www.agohq.org/docs/doc.html and scroll down to "Competitions and Conventions." Here you will find two documents which will walk you through every step of the way!
